One day this kid will feel something stir in his heart and throat and mouth. One day this kid will reach a point where he senses a division that isn’t mathematical. One day this kid will talk.
Inspired by David Wojnarowicz's renowned text, "One Day This Kid" is an exploration of silent struggle and unspoken tension as Hamed navigates an undefined future with his father.
Spanning more than a decade, One Day This Kid follows Hamed from adolescence into adulthood as he navigates the tension between his Afghan heritage and his queer identity. Told through impressionistic, dialogue-light vignettes, the film captures pivotal moments of disconnection, longing, and quiet resilience. Though some may draw comparisons to Moonlight, One Day This Kid offers something distinct — a quiet, deeply felt story rooted in cultural specificity. Director Alexander Farah imbues meaning into everyday moments, creating cascading waves of emotional payoff as the film unfolds across time. This is not just a coming-out story; it’s a meditation on how living your life “out loud” carries different risks depending on where you come from. Farah resists tidy resolution and invites us to sit in the sadness for those who are still struggling.
