Unholy

Directed by Daisy Friedman

Produced by Arielle Friedman & Isaak Popkin

United States | English | 13' | Comedy

Unholy follows Noa, a young adult with a complex gastrointestinal disorder, as she attends her family's Passover Seder for the first time since being put on a feeding tube. There, she is confronted by pushy family members, malfunctioning medical devices, and a room full of food she cannot eat.

How does one find belonging and meaning when the rituals of family, friendship, and religion are, quite literally, killing you? Being a person with invisible disabilities and a host of food sensitivities, I felt incredibly seen by Unholy. It’s not an easy thing to dramatize this kind of struggle (Trust me, I’ve put a lot of thought into it over the years.), but writer/director Daisy Freidman found a universal and cinematic way to tell this (literally) internal story.
