Adapted from the award-winning play, Rehearsal tells the story of an elite private school history teacher and her students defending how and why they began the weekly ritual of obsessively performing a mock school shooting when they come under investigation by the school board.
To say this film is emotional is an understatement. Having spent my entire school career doing active shooter drills, Rehearsal speaks to the anxieties about gun violence in schools and the apathy/pragmatism students can fall into with it. Unfortunately timeless and incredibly well realized, the style of the film speaks to how common and matter of fact school shootings are today, and in so doing makes Rehearsal one of the more sobering horror movies you could watch. It’s this strange, sobering, almost “found footage” type of film that you have never seen before, and will almost assuredly be telling everyone you know about.
