Nestled between a deli and a Chevron in San Rafael, CA lies a small jeans shop called Jeans to a T. Tom Diettrich, the founder, owner, and sole employee, has been selling denim six days a week for 49 years. Tom treats the selling of jeans as an art; he is dubbed "The Jean Whisperer" for his encyclopedic memory of every past customer's pant size. He's a celebrity in the denim community for his vintage stock and discontinued styles. Jeans To A T is the last of its kind. This film explores a maestro in the twilight of his career at a moment when excellence in service is being lost for the sake of convenience. It’s a reflective portrait of a man who has devoted his life to the niche of quality denim and how his shop has impacted a community. Tom is on the edge of retirement and has no one to replace him. Once he hangs it up, will he be remembered for his denim legacy?
