Corpse Fishing

Directed by Jean Liu

Produced by Sarah Park

United States | Mandarin Chinese | 16' | Drama

In search of her missing father, a desperate teenager strikes a deal with a stranger to go fishing for corpses.

Produced as part of Indeed’s Rising Voices fellowship, Corpse Fishing interprets the theme of “the future of work” uniquely, with its tale of a mysterious man who recovers corpses from the river, and a teenage girl who offers to work for him in order to search for her missing father. Festival-goers may remember director Jean Liu’s riotous comedy “Learning English,” from our 2024 lineup. As evidenced by its name, this short strikes a completely different tone. Yet Ms Liu’s strong directorial point of view makes this eerie drama equally as compelling and impressive.
