BREAKING SILENCE

Directed by Amy Bench, Annie Silverstein

Produced by Monique Walton

United States | American Sign Language, English | 18' | Documentary

BREAKING SILENCE is a verité portrait of a deaf father and CODA daughter from Baton Rouge, who work together upon Leslie’s release from prison to help
others in their community affected by the prison system. An intimate exploration into parenthood, regret, and, ultimately, healing.

Acknowledging how the deaf and their loved ones are affected in the world can be easily overlooked if you aren’t directly affected. Breaking Silence pulls back the curtain on one man’s journey and impact within his growing community. The central question, “What compels us to create change?”, is addressed through a poignant POV. This film is an eye opener in the best of ways. — Elle Shaw, Festival Director
