United States | English | 28' | Fiction

In a world where Black men have wings and their first flight is a rite of passage, Akil must defy fears, insecurities, and societal barriers while discovering his perfect launch into manhood.

If you watch nothing else at this festival, watch this breathtaking, poetic sci-fi drama honoring the experience of growing up Black in America. Set in a fictional United States where Black boys are born with the gift of flight, but face discrimination and targeting as a result. Protagonist Akil must find his own inner strength and grace within a system designed to hold him back. Tari Wariebi’s masterpiece will leave you in awe and plant a seed of love in your heart. Not only for Akil, but for every young person struggling to navigate the divisions that keep our country at war with itself. — Kath Tolentino, Programmer
