Inner Demons

United States | English | 11' | Horror, Drama
Mya's world takes a harrowing twist when pills meant to alleviate depression unwittingly unleash a nightmarish entity that embodies her inner turmoil. Mya finds herself entangled in a relentless battle against her own psyche, fighting not just for her mental well-being but her very survival.
I love a creature feature, and Inner Demons is no exception, aside from the creature that our final girl has to face is way scarier than any slasher, vampire, or ghost: she has to face herself. Director Jasmine J. Johnson takes us down a harrowing twisted journey of self hatred with a creature design that still sends shivers down my spine, not shying away from the literal and metaphorical hideousness of self harm in a way that calls us all in to look at ourselves, exorcise our own demons, and support one another when we feel lost in the haunted house of our own bodies.
