Playing God

Directed by Matteo Burani

Produced by Croma Studio, Arianna Gheller, Francesca D'Agnano & Nicolas Shmerkin

Italy | Italian | 9' | Animation, Dark, Drama

A clay sculpture comes to life in the darkness of a workshop, surrounded by strange creatures...

From the first frame of this film I only had one thought on my mind: Art. Playing God gloriously captures the look of the Renaissance’s master painters in stop-motion animation, and it expertly expresses humanity's search for place and purpose. Never is a word said yet every thought and feeling is understood through awe-striking compositions and genuinely thrilling character designs. There’s a tragic sincerity passing with every frame, and with every little development on screen you’ll find yourself leaning forward in your seat. As I watched I felt myself creeping closer to the screen, and truthfully I can’t wait to watch this film again. Art, you know?
