Dead Cat

Directed by Annie-Claude Caron, Danick Audet

Produced by Astrid Barrette Tessie, Sophie Valcourt

Canada | French | 13' | Fiction

What were Catherine and Louis thinking when they chose a cat with distinctive white spots? It would have been much easier to replace if they had picked the all-back one! Now, they will have to tell their daughter Sophie that Nugget’s dead. Unless….

Sophie’s parents find themselves in an all too familiar dilemma … how to handle the death of a family pet. Dead Cat, by writers / directors Annie-Claude Caron and Danick Audet, works extremely well emotionally and narratively tackling a tricky subject in a funny and nuanced way. The acting from young Lilas-Rose Cantin is earnest, and the parents really make the most out of their therapy/dinner table scenes. Well edited and paced, the set design and score both heavily contribute to the funny tone. Dead Cat is fun, and I loved that the kid ends up teaching the parents a lesson. — Lauren Reid Brown, Director of Programming
